Argument Leads to Shooting Death in N. Hollywood

An argument between two men in the parking lot of a North Hollywood bar Friday night led to the shooting death of one man and the wounding of another man, Los Angeles police said.

The 8:30 p.m. incident at the bar at 7923 Lankershim Blvd., near Blythe Street, left Oscar German Ortiz, 25, of North Hollywood dead and Eduardo Toralez, 23, of North Hollywood critically injured, Officer Herrold Egger said.

Ortiz died at the scene; Toralez was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, Egger said.

Police said Toralez saw two men, one of them Ortiz, arguing in the parking lot of the bar. When he approached, the gunman fired three shots, killing Ortiz and hitting Toralez twice in the chest, Egger said. After the shooting, the gunman sped away in an automobile, Egger said.

Police said they are questioning area residents and witnesses, but have no information on the identity of the suspect.
