Karpov, Trailing, Takes Last Timeout in Chess Match
Champion Anatoly Karpov took his last allowable timeout in the world chess championship Saturday, with challenger Gary Kasparov needing just one win or two draws to take the title.
The score stands at 11 1/2 to 9 1/2 in Kasparov’s favor. Kasparov won four and lost two games with 15 draws. The championship is won by the first player to win six games or 12 1/2 points.
The official Tass news agency said the 22nd game will be played Tuesday in the Tchaikovsky concert hall. Only three games remain in the series.
