Anaheim firefighters battled a spectacular fire Sunday night at a vacant 1950s-style rock ‘n’ roll nightclub while people in an adjacent restaurant were evacuated and streets around the blaze were cordoned off, authorities said.

Callers flooded the fire dispatch switchboard with reports of flames shooting high against the night sky above the closed nightclub, Radio City. Firefighters managed to extinguish the 7:30 p.m. blaze within 35 minutes, a fire dispatcher said.

There were no injuries.

Damage to the 4,500-square-foot building at the corner of Knott Avenue and Ball Road was estimated at $100,000, authorities said. Damage to contents had not been assessed.

Patrons of a restaurant next door were evacuated in case flames spread, and streets were closed to traffic for about an hour, a spokeswoman said.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
