Entertainment conglomerate MCA Inc. today reported third-quarter earnings soared by 90.7% to the second-highest level in the Los Angeles-based company’s history.
For the three months ended Sept. 30, the company earned $67.5 million, or 91 cents per share, compared to a year earlier when it earned $35.4 million, or 49 cents per share. A major factor in the turnaround was the box-office success of the movie “Back to the Future.” MCA’s Universal Studios subsidiary had been beset by a string of unsuccessful films.
