2 More Robberies at Seniors’ Complexes

Two robberies were added Monday to the list of crimes that have occurred at downtown senior citizen housing complexes in the last three weeks, said Bill Robinson, San Diego police spokesman.

The first incident occurred about 12:45 p.m. Monday when a man told a resident of a complex in the 1700 block of 3rd Avenue that he was a plumber and needed to enter the building. After the woman, in her mid-70s, allowed the man into her apartment, he took $50 and fled, Robinson said.

The robber apparently went to the seventh floor of the complex and used the same excuse to gain entry to the apartment of an 83-year-old woman, he said. The man held a knife to the woman’s throat and demanded money, Robinson said. The robber took $100 from the woman’s purse, bound her hands and feet, and fled.
