Countywide : Transit District OKs Changes on Nine Lines

The Orange County Transit District Board of Directors Monday unanimously approved service changes on nine lines in the northeast and southern part of the county, including rerouting some lines and discontinuing service on portions.

The service changes, which will become effective Feb. 16, are designed to increase efficiency, said Claudia Keith, OCTD’s public information officer. “Basically, these lines did not meet the standard operating costs set by the board of directors,” she said.

Edmund Buckley, manager of service development, said the major change will be the total elimination of Route 87, which goes from San Clemente to Fullerton, and to decrease the number of one-way trips on Route 78, which travels the San Diego Freeway corridor to Laguna Hills and Long Beach.

Other routes affected are:

Route 22--Reroute all service between Yorba Linda Boulevard and Mira Loma Avenue to operate on Kraemer Boulevard, deleting service on Rose Drive. Also, delete service between Brea Mall and La Habra Fashion Square on Lambert Street.

Route 59--Delete all service north of Kraemer Boulevard and Mira Loma Avenue and reroute trips currently terminating at Kraemer Boulevard and La Palma Avenue to serve the northeast Anaheim Industrial area on La Palma Avenue, Miller Street and Miro Loma Avenue.

Route 64--Provide service at 15-minute intervals during peak hours between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. and service at 20-minute intervals from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. between the Santa Ana Transit Terminal and Westminster Mall. Service at 40-minute intervals will be provided to Long Beach weekdays between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Also, selected weekday peak hour routes to southeast Santa Ana will be cut.

Route 75--Reroute all service from El Toro Road to operate on Lake Forest Drive between Rockfield Boulevard and Trabuco Road. Limited weekday service to the Irvine Industrial Center will be provided during peak hours, deleting the Connor Marine Housing Loop on these trips. Also, Saturday service on this line will increase to 50-minute intervals instead of the 1-hour intervals currently provided.

Route 85--Reroute all service in Santa Ana to operate along Santa Ana Boulevard between Poinsettia Street and the Santa Ana Civic Center.

Route 91--Delete service between K mart Plaza and San Clemente on selected trips.

Route 141--Discontinue selected trips.

Keith said new schedules specifying these changes will be available by late January.
