‘Hefner’s Views on Pornography’

The letter from Hugh Hefner (Oct. 26), “Hefner’s Views on Pornography,” was both timely and thought-provoking.

As much as I’d like to believe, I guess I can’t expect that much liberalism from a country that is barely 200 years old. Perhaps someday we will wake up and pronounce pornography legal, as did Denmark in 1969. For the moment I can revel with the knowledge that I am still able to buy Playboy or Hustler magazine across the street from my apartment or walk down the street and view topless entertainment without a worry that either my residence or the topless bar will be raided.

Hefner’s letter points out clearly that as adults in a free democracy we should be able to choose our mode of entertainment without the pressures of religious groups, whose censorship is as misguided as their religion.
