Attorney Kingman Brewster ruled that a free-agent offer sheet tendered by the New York Knicks to forward Albert King is legal. The New Jersey Nets, for whom King has played the last four seasons, have until Friday to match the offer sheet.
Brewster ruled that the offer sheet does not violate terms of the collective bargaining agreement between the NBA and the players union, specifically in regards to the $4.2-million salary cap.
The Nets can either match the offer and keep King, match the offer and trade King or do nothing and allow the Knicks to acquire King.
