Fullerton : Parking Near Fraternity Row on Council Agenda

Share

The City Council is expected tonight to consider revising the parking hours for residents in an area near Cal State Fullerton’s Fraternity Row.

Thirty-four of the 79 homeowners in and around Teri Place signed a petition opposing the hours of the parking law, which now restricts parking between 5 p.m. and 2 a.m. The residents want to change the hours to 9 p.m. until 5 a.m.

The later hours, they say, would allow residents to park in front of their homes, as well as allow visitors or vehicles of persons doing maintenance or construction work on their property to park.

“They believe the permit will work just as well with shorter hours and give them more (parking) freedom,” said Hugh Berry, assistant city manager.

The parking permit law was implemented last April to quiet residents’ complaints that students visiting the fraternity houses in the area were parking in their neighborhood, littering and making too much noise.

However, Berry said, residents seeking the change did not represent a “clear majority.”
