Game 22 Adjourned; Karpov Holding Edge
World chess champion Anatoly Karpov, playing white, adjourned the 22nd game of the championship match with challenger Gary Kasparov on Tuesday, and experts said Karpov had a good chance for victory.
The game was adjourned when Karpov, one pawn up, sealed his 42nd move.
Kasparov leads by 11.5 points to Karpov’s 9.5 points and needs only one more point to win the match, which is limited to 24 games.
A victory is worth one point and a draw gives each player a half point. The first player to reach 12.5 points clinches the championship.
