Sunland Suspect Pleads Not Guilty in Bombing

A 21-year-old Sunland man has pleaded innocent to charges that he lobbed an explosive device through the window of a Tujunga condominium last month, authorities said Wednesday.

The suspect, Paul Horstman, faces a preliminary hearing Nov. 21 after entering his plea Tuesday in Van Nuys Municipal Court, Los Angeles Police Detective Ronald Douglass said.

Douglass said Horstman was arrested Sunday when he walked into Foothill Division headquarters to inquire about the death of his girlfriend, Cynthia Weidner, 32, who was found earlier in the day lying, stabbed to death, on a Tujunga sidewalk.

A warrant was issued for Horstman’s arrest after the Oct. 22 explosion that shattered two windows and damaged a wall but caused no injuries at the condominium on Tujunga Canyon Boulevard, police said.

Douglass said Horstman knew the occupants of the condominium, but he refused to elaborate.

Horstman is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail at Van Nuys Jail.
