In the sixth race, Moon Drive broke a leg in midstretch, spilling Pat Valenzuela. Antonio Castanon also fell when his mount couldn’t avoid Moon Drive and Valenzuela.

Castanon was hospitalized for examination, but Valenzuela, who won two races earlier in the day, finished fourth in the next race aboard Bishop’s Ring II.

Moon Drive was destroyed, and track officials said they didn’t know how the 3-year-old colt incurred the injury.
