Fullerton Rallies in Fourth Period for 27-21 Victory Over Golden West

Fullerton College rallied from a 21-13 deficit with two fourth-quarter touchdowns Friday night to defeat Golden West, 27-21, before 1,500 in a Pac-9 Conference game in LeBard Stadium.

The first-place Hornets (5-1, 6-2) ran their winning streak to five and increased their lead in the Pac-9 over Taft to a game and a half. Taft plays Bakersfield today. Golden West (3-3, 3-4-1) has now lost two straight.

Leading the Fullerton offense, which accumulated 502 total yards, were running back John Green and reserve quarterback Mike Zorn. Green ran for 171 yards on 28 carries and caught two touchdown passes from Zorn, who threw for 116 yards after replacing Richard Williams early in the second quarter.

The Hornets tied the score, 21-21, on the first play of the final quarter when Cleo Bennett scored on a three-yard run, followed by Zorn’s two-point conversion run. Bennett’s score capped an 82-yard, 11-play drive.

Fullerton then took the lead when Zorn, who completed nine of 12 attempts, threw a seven-yard scoring pass to Green. Green’s touchdown capped an 67-yard, 12-play drive.

Golden West was led by quarterback Tim Hanson, who completed 15 of 29 attempts for 293 yards and three touchdowns. Two went to Gene Egan on receptions of 37 and 39 yards. Egan made nine catches for a school-record 241 yards.

The Rustlers’ Todd Parker, who went into the game as the second leading rusher in the conference, was held to 47 yards on 18 carries. Golden West had 352 total yards.
