A 23-year-old Navy man was killed in a freak accident on Interstate 15 when a loose strap trailing from a moving truck wrapped around his motorcycle and slammed it to the pavement, California Highway Patrol officials reported. The motorcyclist, Mark James Lehman, was traveling southbound in a lane next to a tractor-trailer rig driven by Carlton McKay of Colorado Springs, Colo., on I-15 south of California 94 when the strap became entwined around the motorcycle about 6:10 p.m. Friday, coroner’s deputies said. Lehman’s hometown was not released by Navy officials, but he was based aboard the guided missile cruiser Gridley. He was dead at the scene. CHP officials are investigating.
