A 24-year-old south Sacramento man was sentenced to 41-years-to-life in prison for beating his mother and his stepfather to death with an ax handle. Bret Harris pleaded guilty to the murders, thereby avoiding the death penalty or life without possibility of parole. His mother, Barbara Gisler, and his stepfather, Robert Gisler, died on Oct. 18, 1984, in the bedroom of their home. Investigators said the couple was attacked while they were asleep in their beds.
