Muster Leads Stanford to Win Over Oregon State

Brad Muster had 168 yards in total offense and two touchdowns as Stanford defeated Oregon State, 39-24, Saturday night in a Pacific 10 game.

Stanford quarterback John Paye, showing no problems from his recently separated shoulder, threw for 238 yards. Muster had 103 yards receiving and 65 yards running.

Oregon State quarterback Rich Gonzales threw for 228 yards, and fullback Darvin Malone had 82 yards rushing.

Both teams are 3-6 overall and 2-4 in the Pac-10.

Kevin Scott capped Stanford’s scoring with a four-yard touchdown run on a reverse in the fourth quarter that gave the Cardinal a 39-16 lead.

Gonzales, who ran one yard for the Beavers’ final touchdown, had his hopes for a comeback dashed when he was intercepted for the third time with 1:58 left.

David Sweeney’s third field goal, a 31-yarder early in the fourth quarter that put Stanford ahead 32-16, came after Toi Cook intercepted a pass three yards deep in the end zone and ran it back 53 yards.

Muster scored his second touchdown of the game in the third quarter on a three-yard run that gave Stanford a 29-16 lead.
