Georgetown Returns Full of Fight, 102-75
David Wingate scored 16 points and Reggie Williams 15 to lead Georgetown to a 102-75 exhibition victory over the touring National Basketball Team of Puerto Rico Tuesday night in a game marred by a bench-clearing altercation.
Georgetown freshmen Jaren Jackson, Charles Smith, Bobby Winston and Jonathan Edwards combined for 34 points as Coach John Thompson made early use of his bench.
The fight, with 7:51 to play, resulted in the ejection of Georgetown freshman Edwards and Puerto Rico’s Francisco Leon. Leon, hit by Edwards as the two jockeyed for position, retaliated with a punch to Edwards’ right eye as both benches emptied.
Playing their first game in four years without All-American Patrick Ewing, Georgetown combined a balanced scoring attack and a fast-break offense to hand the visitors their second loss in three outings against Big East teams.
Wesley Correa, who scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half, led the visitors in scoring.
