A jury deliberated less than three hours before convicting a former race track cook of federal charges that he participated in bribery schemes to fix three harness horse races in Ohio and Kentucky last year.
The U.S. District Court jury of nine women and three men in Cincinnati unanimously decided that Charles Castleberry, 55, of Cincinnati joined in the payoff schemes to fix a race at Lebanon Raceway in Lebanon, Ohio, and two races at Latonia Race Course in Florence, Ky., near Cincinnati.
The FBI set up the bribe schemes as part of its ongoing, three-year undercover investigation to determine whether races have been fixed at tracks in Ohio, Michigan and Kentucky.
