McGriff, 57, Still Running Strong
Thirty-five years after beating his opposition in the 1950 Mexican Road Race, Hershel McGriff is still winning.
McGriff, who will be 58 next month, won the Pep Boys 300 for Grand American stock cars by 49 seconds Saturday at Riverside International Raceway. It was McGriff’s 14th victory on this track.
Kevin Riniker of Riverside was second. Defending champion Duke Hoenshell of Orange led the first 35 laps before McGriff took over and stayed in front to the finish. Three laps after losing his lead, Hoenshell crashed in Turn 6.
