The California Transportation Commission has allocated $11.5 million for construction of a bridge over the Century Freeway from Wilmington Avenue to Willowbrook Avenue.

Work on the project, which also is the future site of a light rail transit station, is expected to start early next year. The transit station is anticipated to be in operation by the time the 17.3-mile Century Freeway is completed in 1993.

Construction will start in the fall of 1987 to relocate Southern Pacific Transportation Co. railroad tracks so the transit station can be built below the bridge, according to Thomas Knox, public information officer for the California Department of Transportation.

A large open space near the Willowbrook Avenue site is planned to be developed into a park-and-ride facility for use by patrons of the light rail transit station, Knox said. Bus service also is expected to be provided to the light rail station, he said.
