Brett Carroll, the 11-year-old son of former major league pitcher Clay Carroll, has been declared brain dead from a bullet wound to the head that caused massive brain damage, officials at Blake Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Fla., said.
Brett’s parents, Carroll and his ex-wife Judy, announced their son’s organs will be donated.
Police said Brett, Carroll, and his wife, Frances, were shot during a disturbance at their home. Frederick Nowitzke, Frances Carroll’s son by a previous marriage, has been arrested and charged with murder in the case.
