California hostels, which are located in some of the state’s most scenic settings, are clean and economical alternatives to typical commercial accommodations.

As part of an international network of mostly dormitory-style dwellings, hostels function cooperatively, allowing visitors to meet other travelers and to take an active part in helping with their lodgings.

The American Youth Hostel (AYH) Assn. is a membership organization open to anyone, regardless of age. A membership can be purchased at most AYHs for a minimal fee.
