San Dimas residents Larry M. Saenz and Donald S. Carpenter have been honored for their volunteer work by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.

Saenz, a volunteer with the county’s Forester and Fire Warden Department, coordinates the department’s training standards and serves as the training coordinator for the volunteer Explorer Scout program.

Carpenter oversees volunteers in the Department of Public Works.

Robert Nathan of Jet Propulsion Laboratory has been given $20,000 by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration for significant scientific and technical contributions in the field of imaging.

California State University, Los Angeles, has named Donald T. Sterling, attorney and owner of the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Assn., the 1985 Outstanding Alumnus of the Year. Sterling is a member of the class of 1956.

Larry Brooks, chairman of the board of directors of Inland National Bank in Walnut, has been chosen Humanitarian of the Year by the City of Hope. A research fellowship will be established by City of Hope in Brooks’ name.

Sylvester M. Graff, vice president of Pacific Bell, has been appointed campaign chairman for the San Gabriel Valley region of United Way Inc. Graff serves on the board of directors of the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce, the American Red Cross, the Pasadena Symphony and the Pasadena City College Foundation.

Manuel A. Valenzuela Jr. of Temple City and Arthur Carrington of La Puente have been selected as Outstanding Young Men of America by the Board of Advisers for the Outstanding Young Men of America awards program. Award recipients are nominated by U.S. senators, governors, mayors, college presidents and civic groups for community service, professional leadership, academic achievement, business advancement, cultural accomplishments and civic and political participation.
