The death of a man whose body was found in a parked car has been listed as “suspicious” and is being investigated as a homicide, police said Saturday.

There were “no signs of force” on either the body of the victim, identified as Jeffrey W. Robbins, 28, of Inglewood, or on the car. “But due to the suspicious nature of the death, we are treating it as a homicide, possibly drug-related,” Sgt. Steve Kelch said.

Police received a report about 1:05 p.m. Friday that a man had “possibly passed out” in a car parked in the 10800 block of Rose Street in Stanton, Kelch said. Officers found Robbins’ body behind the wheel of a gray Datsun, and city paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene, Kelch said.

The cause of death has not yet been determined, he said.

One witness told police he observed the vehicle pull up to the curb and the driver slump over the wheel, but police are “not sure if that happened or not,” Kelch said.
