Culver City police officers chasing two burglary suspects shot and killed one of them early Saturday morning when he pointed a gun at them. The unidentified man was killed shortly after 1 a.m. by officers who were searching the area around Culver City High School, 4401 Elenda St., because security guards there had seen two men run from one of the school offices, Sgt. Walt Schick said. Officers Tim Lynn and Manuel Ariza, assigned to search the footpath of the La Ballona Flood Control channel just east of Sepulveda Boulevard, reported they first spotted the two suspects as they ran toward them, Schick said. When Lynn and Ariza ordered the men to halt, one of the suspects pointed a revolver at them, Schick said. He said both officers opened fire, killing the man. Investigators said they were trying to identify both the dead man and the second suspect, who escaped.
