Bowling Green Improves to 11-0 With 38-17 Win

Quarterback Brian McClure passed for 479 yards and three touchdowns as Bowling Green completed an unbeaten regular season Saturday with a 38-17 victory over Ohio University.

The victory lifted the Falcons to 11-0 overall and 9-0 in the Mid-American Conference, while Ohio University fell to 2-9 and 2-7.

McClure got Bowling Green off to a 14-0 lead on a 21-yard touchdown pass to Ken Rankin and a 31-yarder to Stan Hunter, who had 10 receptions for 175 yards.

Bernard White added a three-yard touchdown run, and Paul Silvi added a 30-yard field goal and three extra-point kicks for a 24-0 halftime lead.

Ohio University came back on a pair of touchdown passes by quarterback Dennis Swearingen, a 10-yarder to Jesse Owens and an 8-yarder to Orvell Johns. Chris Judge’s 28-yard field goal made it 24-17.

The Bobcats then followed up on one of McClure’s five interceptions, driving to the Bowling Green 25 early in the fourth period.

McClure and the Falcons then moved 86 yards to a clinching 11-yard TD pass from McClure to Joe Boxley, with Joe Davis adding the final score on a 67-yard run.

Bowling Green will meet Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. champion Fresno State (10-0-1) in the California Bowl Dec. 14 at Fresno.
