Barberstown Discovers an Opening, Wins $108,400 Feature at Hollypark

Barberstown, ridden by Fernando Toro, was blocked going into the stretch but found an opening and outran Debonaire Junior to win the $108,400 On Trust Handicap Thursday at Hollywood Park.

Barberstown finished one neck in front of Debonaire Junior, ridden by Chris McCarron. Pettrax, ridden by Corey Black, was third, another two lengths back.

Carrying high weight of 123 pounds, Barberstown ran the mile in 1:34 2/5.

Sent off the favorite by a Thanksgiving Day crowd of 21,102, Barberstown paid $7.60, $3.60 and $3.40. Debonaire Junior paid $3.40 and $2.80, and Pettrax returned $4.60 to show.

In today’s $164,300 Hoist The Flag Stakes, Snow Chief, ridden by Alex Solis, will carry high weight of 120 pounds. Arewehavingfunyet, 117, with Laffit Pincay aboard, figures to offer the main opposition in the 1 1/16-mile race for two-year-olds.

Saturday, Fred Hooper’s Precisionist, winner of the Breeders’ Cup Sprint, heads the entries for the $150,000-added National Sprint Championship, and then on Sunday, a top field of 2-year-old fillies is set to run in the $500,000 Hollywood Starlet.
