A Canoga Park man was stabbed to death by a gang member during a robbery early Saturday, Los Angeles police said.

Police found Jose Garcia Arroyo, 41, lying on the sidewalk in the 7200 block of Milwood Avenue shortly after midnight. He had multiple stab wounds to his chest, abdomen and neck, Officer Tom Zwinger said.

Arroyo, a father of five, was taken to Valley Park Medical Center in Canoga Park, where he died two hours later, Zwinger said.

Police said that, about 45 minutes after the incident, they found Robert Navarrete, 19, hiding in a nearby alley. Navarrete, also of Canoga Park, was captured after a block-long chase, Zwinger said.

Navarrete wore blood-stained clothes and had a knife and the victim’s wallet, which contained $200 in cash, police said.

He was arrested on suspicion of murder and is being held without bail at the West Valley police station.
