Dave Krieg, Seattle’s on-and-off quarterback, was on Sunday as he passed for two touchdowns to lead the Seahawks to a 24-6 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.

“I guess I just executed better today,” said Krieg, whose ability to play was in question most of the week because of an ailing right shoulder. “I haven’t been consistent this season, and consistency is important at my position.

“You want to be consistent every game, but sometimes you’re not. I wish I knew the answer.”

Before 52,655 fans in the Kingdome, Krieg teamed with tight end Dan Ross on an 11-yard touchdown pass play in the second quarter and Steve Largent for a 17-yard score in the third quarter.

The Seahawks’ other touchdown came on a five-yard run by Curt Warner in the second quarter.

Krieg completed 21 of 34 passes for 254 yards and was intercepted once.

Breaking a two-game losing streak, including a demoralizing 19-6 Monday night loss at San Francisco, the Seahawks improved to 7-6 to remain two games back of the Raiders and Denver Broncos in the AFC West with three games remaining.

Krieg, who failed to produce a touchdown in San Francisco, didn’t throw deep patterns in practice until Friday because of his bruised shoulder.

“I expected to be able to play all week,” Krieg insisted. “I felt 100% out there.”

Nick Lowery kicked field goals of 25 and 35 yards for the Chiefs (4-9), who remained in the AFC West cellar with their eighth loss in nine weeks.

“We played a tough game throughout, just not tough enough,” Kansas City Coach John Mackovic said.

Largent matched Lance Alworth’s NFL record with his seventh career 1,000-yard receiving season and ran his consecutive-game receiving streak to 120, third best in NFL history behind Harold Carmichael, 127 games, and Mel Gray, 121.
