Tardy Utility Payment Fatal to Zoo Monkeys

SAPPORO, Japan —
Nine monkeys froze to death at a Japanese zoo that had its power cut off because it could not pay an electric bill.
Electricity at the zoo in the northern town of Tomakomai was cut off in late October, but a local official said it might be restored soon out of compassion for the surviving animals.
