Gonzales Will Fight Roach Tonight in His Second Bout as a Pro

Paul Gonzales, who has fought only once professionally since winning an Olympic gold medal, will box Joey Roach tonight in the main event of a five-bout card at the Hollywood Palladium.

Gonzales, 21, scored a six-round decision over Jose (Pulga) Torres in his professional debut Aug. 11, a year to the day after the boxer from East Los Angeles had won the flyweight division in the Los Angeles Games. The extended layoff between fights was caused by a broken right hand he suffered during the Olympics.

Roach, undefeated professionally (7-0-3), lost a close three-round decision to Gonzales in an amateur tournament in 1983.
