A Canoga Park woman was in critical condition and her fiance in serious condition Thursday after the couple’s pickup truck was broadsided by a car driven by a woman who was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, Los Angeles police said.

Barbara Eldred, 19, and Jeffrey Butterworth, 20, also of Canoga Park, were thrown from their truck and suffered massive head injuries after a car driven by 32-year-old Kimberly Sue Stoner of Canoga Park ran a red light at Winnetka Avenue and Sherman Way, Officer Richard Breidenthal said.

Eldred and Butterworth were airlifted to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, Breidenthal said.

Stoner was being held at Van Nuys Women’s Jail, Breidenthal said.

Police said the force of the collision sent the truck spinning into the air and caused it to hit a truck traveling southbound on Winnetka.

Five vehicles were involved in the accident.
