DETROIT —
Two adults and four children died Thursday in a fire that trapped them in a second-floor bedroom of a house on the city’s southwest side, authorities said.
“They didn’t have a chance,” said Senior Fire Chief Edward Nowinski. “The fire went right up the second-floor stairway, which was the only entrance or exit from the second floor. They just couldn’t get out.”
Fire investigators said it appeared the fire started on the front porch and spread rapidly.
