Hawaii Eliminates SDSU in Volleyball
The San Diego State women’s volleyball team lost, 3-1, to the Rainbows at Hawaii in the first round of the NCAA playoffs late Friday night, and finished with its poorest record in eight years.
The Aztecs, who lost, 15-12, 11-15, 15-8, 16-14, wound up at 25-20. Since 1977, when SDSU went 18-16, it had not won fewer than 30 matches in a season.
Outside hitter Reydan Ahuna led Hawaii with 23 kills, and middle-blocker Suzanne Eagye, a Point Loma High School graduate, added 20 for the Rainbows.
Hawaii advances to the Northwest Regional semifinals, where it faces second-seeded Pacific in Stockton Dec. 13.
