Deliveryman Slain While Making Run

A 21-year-old pizza delivery man was killed while making a delivery to a downtown Glendale hotel early Tuesday, police said.

The body of John Steven Harrigan was discovered about 1 a.m. in a room at the Regal Lodge on West Colorado Street, Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Thate said.

Police were led to the room by remarks made by a man and woman who held up a cook and clerk at Domino’s Pizza in Glendale, where Harrigan worked, just after midnight Tuesday.

Thate said the couple apparently lured Harrigan to their room, robbed and killed him, then went to the pizza restaurant, where they stole $2,000 and left the two employees bound hand and foot.

“Those victims felt, or something was said by the suspects, that made them believe the driver had met with foul play,” Thate said. “We backtracked his deliveries and found (his body) on the last of his route of deliveries, at the hotel.”

The cause of Harrigan’s death had not been determined Tuesday night by the coroner’s office.

Thate said police are seeking a man in his mid-30s and a woman in her mid-20s.

Authorities are investigating the possibility that the Glendale crimes may be connected to a string of robberies of pizza delivery drivers in the San Fernando Valley, although four teen-age suspects have already been arrested in those heists.
