Three robbers stole an undetermined amount of jewelry Thursday afternoon from a May Co. in North Hollywood, then ran through a crowd of Christmas shoppers in the department store and fled in a stolen car, Los Angeles police said.

The armed robbery occurred about 3:30 p.m. at Laurel Plaza shopping center, 6150 Laurel Canyon Blvd., when two men and a woman approached the jewelry counter in the middle of the store and one of the men pulled out a handgun, Sgt. Jay Rush said. The other man leaped over the counter and scooped the jewelry into a bag, Rush said.

The robbers sped off in a stolen car driven by an accomplice, police said. The car was found shortly after the robbery near Victory and Lankershim boulevards.

The robbery may be connected to five recent robberies at May Co. jewelry counters in Los Angeles, Rush said.
