Kris Helmuth and Mimi Mency have been appointed by the Monrovia City Council to serve on the city Planning Commission, the board that initially considers all land-use and developmental projects. Both Helmuth and Mency have previously served as presidents of the Monrovia Unified School District board.

William B. Allen, professor of humanities and social sciences at Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, has been sworn in to the National Council on the Humanities. The council is a 26-member body appointed by the President of the United States to advise the chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities on policy matters and grant applications.

Audrey C. Mitchell has been named executive director of the Visiting Nurses Assn. of the East San Gabriel Valley. Mitchell, who previously served as director of professional services, succeeds Peggy Keidel, who retired.
