Rancho Museum Reopened After Lighting Addition

Rancho Los Cerritos Museum has reopened to the public, after being closed while its electrical system was replaced.

The museum, located at 4600 Virginia Road and operated by the city Department of Library Services is open from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.

The new electrical system includes lights for the rancho’s landscaped inner courtyard, rear garden, patio and parking lots, which will allow it to be used for specual programs and site rentals at night.

Rancho Los Cerritos’two-story, Monterey-style adobe was built in 1844 by Los Angeles merchant Jonathan Temple. The city of Long Beach purchased the site in 1955 and has operated it as a museum since. the ranch house is now furnished as it would have been in the 1870s
