Heart Attack Blamed for Driver’s Death

CORONA — The death of an elderly driver apparently was caused by heart failure, not by injuries he suffered when his car jumped a curb and hit a light pole, a spokeswoman for the Riverside County coroner said Wednesday.
Miles O. Schafer, 70, of Corona died Tuesday night at Riverside General Hospital, eight hours after his car crashed into a pole beside East Grand Boulevard between 9th and 10th streets in central Corona.
Schafer was driving south when “he crossed the two northbound lanes, hit the curb, and then hit the pole,” said Corona Police Sgt. Henry Aja.
