Paul Gillis scored on a 20-foot wrist shot with three seconds remaining in overtime Thursday night at Quebec to lift the Nordiques to a 5-4 victory over the Montreal Canadiens, breaking a tie score in the game and also a tie between the teams for first place in the Adams Division.

Defenseman Larry Robinson, playing his 959th regular-season game for the Canadiens, had given Montreal a 4-3 lead 54 seconds into the third period with a power-play goal on a shot from the blue line that beat Nordique goaltender Mario Gosselin. It was Robinson’s third goal of the game and marked his first hat trick in 14 National Hockey League seasons.

In the first period, Montreal jumped to a 3-0 lead, Chris Nilan scoring just 13 seconds into the game and Robinson following with power-play goals at 4:26 and 15:21.
