Area Roundup : Lucas Paces Southern California College, 69-55

Robbie Lucas scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, and teammate John Haar added 16 points Saturday night to lead Southern California College to a 69-55 victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills in a nonconference game played in the Toros’ gym at Dominguez Hills.

Randy McAllister and Robert Aviles each had seven assists for the Vanguards, who have won four straight games and have improved to 7-4. Tony Akins led all scorers with 24 points for Dominguez Hills, which drops to 3-4.

Riverside 76, Cypress 63--Wilson Foster scored 21 points and Ted Thomas added 18 to lead the Tigers past the Chargers in the championship game of the Riverside Holiday Tournament. Riverside (12-1) built an 18-point lead in the second half, but Cypress (8-4) was able to cut it to 7 with 2:08 left on Paul Horn’s dunk shot.

But the Tigers regained control in the final minutes and pulled away. Horn scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Cypress, and Scott Swanner also scored 16 points. Foster was named the tournament’s most valuable player.

Rancho Santiago 79, Mt. San Jacinto 77--Guard Eric Schurman made a 20-footer with four seconds left to give the Dons (10-2) the victory in the fifth-place game at Riverside City College.

Mt. San Jacinto had a chance to tie the game, but Jeff Daniels’ shot didn’t beat the buzzer.

Schurman led all scorers with 20 points. The Dons’ Mark Moses had 17 points, and Howard Cole added 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Fullerton 71, Palomar 70 (three overtimes)--Bart Hakeman hit a short jump shot with four seconds remaining in the third overtime to lift the Hornets past Palomar in a nonconference game played at Fullerton College. Hakeman scored a team-high 14 points, and Rocco Myers added 11 points for the Hornets (5-5). Dwayne Herd led Palomar with 18 points.
