CS Long Beach Comes Up Short
Greg Anderson scored 25 points on 12-of-14 shooting Saturday to lead Houston to a 96-86 nonconference win over Cal State Long Beach at Houston.
Alvin Franklin added 23 points, and Rickie Winslow had 21 points and 13 rebounds as the Cougars shot 63.5% from the field. Both Winslow and Anderson had five dunks.
Long Beach (3-5) trailed by only four points at halftime, but Houston opened up a 57-46 lead midway through the second half. Houston (5-3) led, 74-66, when the Cougars scored eight straight points to increase the lead to 16 with 6:57 remaining in the game.
The 49ers pulled within five at 87-82 with 2:09 left, but the Cougars prevented Long Beach from getting closer.
