A look at the teams:

FRESNO STATE (6-3)--The Bulldogs have been led in scoring by freshman guard Mike Mitchell (12.9). Jos Kuipers, the team’s leading rebounder, is not expected to play this weekend because of a bad back. Kuipers has been replaced by senior Derrick Barden, who had 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds in Monday’s 89-72 win over Sacramento State. Center Brian Salone, last year’s second-leading scorer, is again second on the team with a 12.7 average. Fresno State will be seeking revenge tonight for an 80-56 loss to Memphis State earlier this month in the Pearl Harbor tournament in Honolulu.

MEMPHIS STATE (9-0)--The Tigers are led in scoring and rebounding by 7-foot center William Bedford. Point guard Andre Turner leads the team in assists (8.2) and is second in scoring (15.9). Baskerville Holmes is third on the team in scoring (12.2) and rebounds (6.6). Memphis State returned four of five starters from last season, losing All-American Keith Lee. Dwight Boyd, who replaced Lee in the lineup, has averaged 7.1 points and 2 assists a game. The Tigers are outscoring their opponents by an average of 27.6 points.

UNC-CHARLOTTE (3-4)--The 49ers are coached by Jeff Mullins, a former NBA player for Golden State. Mullins has adopted the slogan “New Attitude” for his team which was 5-23 last season. Charlotte’s first loss of the year was by one-point to Wake Forest, 68-67. Mike Milling is averaging a team-leading 17.1 points and 6.4 rebounds a game. Ray Gromlowicz also averages 6.4 rebounds. Point guard Keith Williams is averaging 13.7 points and 4.4 assists.

SAN DIEGO STATE (1-7)--The Aztecs had their worst start in history before beating Florida six days ago, 63-62. Coach Smokey Gaines will seek his second straight win by again starting all four of the team’s seniors--guards Anthony Watson, Creon Dorsey and Bobby Owens and forward John Martens. Freshman center Kevin Brown will also start. Aztec substitutes played a combined 13 minutes against Florida, but Gaines expects to play the reserves more tonight. Watson leads the team in scoring (17.4) and is second in rebounds (5.8). Martens is leading in rebounds (7.3) and second in scoring (13.0).
