A Ft. Ord lieutenant was arrested on suspicion of kidnaping, assault with a deadly weapon, attempted murder and false imprisonment after he allegedly accosted a 23-year-old woman soldier at Monterey Peninsula Airport and ordered her at gunpoint to drive him into the Santa Cruz Mountains to “hide out.” The woman, who was also stationed at Ft. Ord but who apparently did not know Lt. Robert Cox, 26, reportedly persuaded him to stop at the Monterey apartment of Army Capt. Joseph Kennedy, 30, so she could break a lunch date. While there, she managed to slip out and call police. Cox allegedly tried to shoot Kennedy as officers arrived, but the captain grabbed the gun and forced him to surrender.
