STAPLETON, Ga. —
Two 12-year-old girls who disappeared Dec. 22 while riding their bicycles on an isolated dirt road returned home Monday and told authorities they had been kidnaped and raped by two masked men.
The girls said they had been held captive in the closet of an old house, blindfolded so that they could not identify their captors.
Hundreds of volunteers combed 400 square miles of eastern Georgia for a week after the girls vanished. The search was called off Sunday.
