The game was certainly closer than the 36-16 score indicated; Texas A&M; scored twice in the last five minutes when the game was pretty much over, the final time after Burger of Auburn threw a wild interception, leaving the Aggies at the six-yard line.

This led to some thought that Coach Jackie Sherrill and his players were running up the score, especially since he called for a two-point conversion after the next-to-last touchdown.

Yet Auburn Coach Pat Dye said he saw nothing wrong with that. “It’s 29-16 (after the two-point conversion),” he said. “What difference did it make.” Would Dye do that? “No,” he said.
