A 23-year-old resident of a Pacoima halfway house for former convicts was arrested Monday in connection with the shooting death of another resident, Los Angeles police said.

The 42-year-old victim, whose name is being withheld until his family is notified, was found dead of multiple gunshot wounds about 5 a.m. at the home at 11919 Chadron Ave., Lt. Bernie Conine said.

Police arrested Melvin Andrew Taylor at the scene on suspicion of murder, Conine said. Taylor is being held without bail at the Police Department’s Foothill Division Jail.

Detective Manford Brown said Taylor and the victim had been arguing before the shooting and the two had been drinking heavily.

Brown said Taylor has been on parole for several months after serving time for a 1982 auto-theft conviction.
