Frenchman Bernard Bobes held off Gian Paolo Messina of Italy by less than a minute to win the Orange Bowl Marathon in Miami.
Bobes, of the French town of Antony, ran the 26-mile 385-yard course in 2 hours 21 minutes 26 seconds. Messina finished in 2:22:14 and Helio Alves Aguiar of Sao Paulo, Brazil was third.
Shirley Silsby, 28, of Cotuit, Mass., won the women’s race in 2:53:18, 90 seconds ahead of Sarah Tabbutt of Berkeley.
