Milwaukee Buck Coach Don Nelson tried a little bit of everything to slow slow down Denver’s Alex English.

None of it worked.

English scored 42 points and keyed a fourth-quarter Denver surge Monday night that brought the Nuggets a 119-115 victory over the Bucks at Milwaukee.

“Alex English certainly turned out to out to be a sly old fox, didn’t he?” Nelson said. “He scores, he passes, he seems to do everything.

“When we double-teamed him tonight, he made the proper passes. There wasn’t anything we could do with him. I tried big (defenders) on him, I tried small on him. I tried doubling him early, I tried doubling him late. He passed when he had to pass. He took our big guys outside and drew the fouls. He took our little guys inside and scored.”

English scored five points during an 8-0 burst that gave the Nuggets a 104-96 lead with 5:51 left after the Bucks had rallied to tie, 96-96, on a 14-foot jumper by Sidney Moncrief.

The Bucks pulled within 114-112 on a steal and breakaway dunk by Kenny Fields, but Mike Evans countered with a steal and fast-break layup to push the Nuggets to a 116-112 lead the Bucks couldn’t overcome in the final 1:40.

Moncrief scored 29 points and Terry Cummings added 28 for the Bucks. Calvin Natt had 23 for the Nuggets.

New York 115, Sacramento 97--Patrick Ewing scored 20 of his 24 points in the first half as the Knicks trounced the Kings at New York.

Mike Woodson, a former first-round draft choice for New York, scored 21 points for the Kings, and LaSalle Thompson had 18 points and 14 rebounds.
