Cypress : City Requires Firms to Report Toxic Materials

The City Council voted unanimously this week to adopt a hazardous-materials disclosure ordinance that would require companies to disclose the hazardous materials they store or handle.

With the adoption of the new law, which will go into effect 30 days after its passage, Cypress joins a growing number of cities establishing a hazardous-materials disclosure ordinance, including Irvine, Orange, Placentia and Yorba Linda.

The Cypress ordinance, drawn up by City Atty. Mark Huebsch, is based on a similar ordinance passed by the county Board of Supervisors last October.
